lever gun reloading

is it safe to reload with round nose bullets or should you stick to a flat nose bullet. i will be reloading a 30/30 and a 35 remington

    Welcome to the Gunbroker Forums!

    Round nose bullets will work fine in your lever rifles. Beside these and flat nose bullets, you can consider the Hornady LEVERevolution bullets with the soft pointed tip:

    Along those lines, how would Nosler Accubonds and BT's work with the teflon tips? I know they still seem pretty stiff, but not so stiff they would set off a primer.

    they are twice as stiff as a hornady LEVERevolution

    If anyone can provide a link to where to get LEVERevolution bullets (not loaded ammo) I would love to know. I have a bunch I need to load but have been putting off buying other bullets hoping these will be for sale sometime.

    I call Hornady about 2x a year and I pretty much get a "no time soon" answer.

    Last I heard, they were going to start hitting the market sometime late January, early February.

    From the who cares department:

    Hornady irritates me sometimes. When the Leverevolution cartridge was about to be released, they sent me a flyer and e-mail announcing it. I thought that it was a great idea, so I called them and asked when the bullet would be available as a handloading component. They said never. I shrugged my shoulders and went on loading my Sierra lead nosed flat HPs. after a while I figured the person I talked to was right. Hornady did not make any announcements about the bullets (which incidentally are called FTX bullets) and as components, they were not going to happen.


    The very day I was at my local gunshop ordering what, for me, will be a lifetime supply of Sierras for my .30-30, someone at Hornady was putting together the e-mail announcement of the FTX bullets that landed in my mailbox a couple of days later. It's a shame since I can't get out in the woods anymore, I just shoot off the bench for accuracy, I would have loved to try some more streamlined bullets. I'll have to leave it to others, since I only shoot that .30-30 a couple of times a year, I'm not going to buy another 100 bullets....

    Round nose bullets in a tube magazine make me very nervous especially with a stiff load in a light weight heavy recoiling gun. Most round noses are resting totally on the primer of the round ahead.

    I just got off the telephone with "Tanya" at Hornady in Grand Island, Nebraska. Per."tanya" the 30cal and 35cal FTX bullets for reloading along with load data will be released to distributers at the end of Jan.09[:)]

    I just last night looked at Midways Jan. catalogue,they will have FTX(leverevolution) bullets at about $27/100
