300WM Brass too SHORT?

I got 100 pcs of Frontier Brass from my uncle a few years ago. They are all 1X fired in his Browning. Never looked at them until now.

After clean and polish I noticed the necks look really short.

OAL is ~2.589" avg.


All my rem/win/fc brass is all on the long side ~2.62"

If the "trim to length" is 2.610" is there an problem with these?


I was going to load them with 200gr Sierra's but concerned of short necks.


What do I do with this Brass?

BTW isn't frontier the old name for Hornady?

frontier is the name for hornady brass that is subbed out to winchester mostly, and some remington. If it says Hornady, then that is the brass they make.

As long as when seated to length, the neck holds the bullet, you are fine. Remember, trim to length is what the lawyers say so as not get sued when someone pinches a hot load in a tight chamber with a neck that is too long. There is a lot of room built in to the book data. I bet you will be just fine

Hunt up one of Sinclairs sintered lead plugs that will allow you to check YOUR chamber to see exactly how much you need to trim for YOUR chamber...
.004 shorter length is not going to be a problem......

mrbruce with all due respect...I think the difference between 2.589 and 2.610 isn't .004 but rather .021. And while it is alot, you can probably shoot them a few times and they will grow back to the 2.610 length.

.021 isn't a lot unless it is too long for the chamber. Just use the brass, and seat the bullet to the proper overall length as stated before. Maybe after you shoot it and size it again it will be the right length.
