Need a new tumbler/vibrator...Suggestions???

I need a new tumbler or vibrator...which do you recommend? ...and what brand, etc. I was going to get the RCBS Mega Vibrator, but they quit making them due to some design flaws. I'm looking for a high capacity model and something that is built to last...with a reasonable price tag. Any suggestions???

I'd go with Dillon. They have a couple of sizes. Mine is 18yrs. old and still going strong.

I have a Lyman 2500 Pro Magnum that holds 1000 38 spl's and does a really good job cleaning. The only drawback is that you can't do smaller batches in it as it will vibrate all over the floor without enough weight. I use my old, old Midway tumbler for the small batches. The Dillon tumbler is really tough (the toughest I have seen) and they last forever, they aren't cheap though.

I bought an el cheepo at Harbor Freight for $19.95 3 years ago and it has seen mega use and still going strong. I have put really nasty brass in there and left it going all night and It was fine. Before that I was useing a homemade tumbler that I made from plans from Popular Mechanics. It used a coffee can as a bin for your brass, a plywood frame with a little electric motor hooked up to a dimmer switch to control the speed of the bin. It worked great but looked like crap and only held a small amount of brass.

I borrowed a friends Dillon for a while and it was nice but is about $200.

One of the guys on another board used a small cement mixer from Harbor Freight (about $100) for doing big lots. I will see if I can find the link.

I had a Midway that worked good for years. Last year I had lots of 223 brass to clean so bought a new Midway. It was total crap and almost caught fire after about 2 hours. I sent it back for replacement and that one lasted one batch or about 2 hours. Gave up and got Lyman and found it worked so much better I could hardly believe it. A lot of Midway's stuff is Chinese and low quality.

Lyman is probably your best buy, I have a 1200 that is at least 15 years old and hasn't missed a beat yet. Get walnut media for cleaning and corn cob for polishing. Usually 2 to 3 hours will get things pretty clean and a spin of about the same duration in the treated corn cob will make them look almost new. Don't run your tumbler on your bench when you're weighing charges, It'll make your scale not work so good.

I bought my Thumlers about 10 years ago from Natchez Shooters Supply and run it constantly and it is still going strong. I also have a small Lyman that I got about 2 years ago and I use it for little batches of brass. They both are fine products. I have seen many threads about the numerous problems with Frankford Arsenal vibrators.
