Ammo and Reload Feeding Frenzy!?

So, what are your thoughts, is this feeding frenzy on ammo, guns, and loading components temporary or looking permanent?

That depends. If the Obama administration doesn't impose draconian gun laws within the next few months, it will slowly peter out as people lose interest.

If they DO impose harsh gun laws expect to see it ramp up, if anything, before the bill becomes law.

No matter what, I'm loading up. If I shoot at the range or not, I'm enjoying my reloading hobby and the way I look at it, I'm supporting and stimulating the economy.
Jjust ask my wife how I spend money on new presses, powder, bullets, etc. Not including keeping the shipping companies busy.
I have a Midway order coming today!

For someone with 30 years of shotshell reloading experience, and 1 year of metallic reloading experience, my bench is well stocked.

It really has been a feeding frenzy around here. The stores can't keep guns, ammo, or components in stock. At the last gun show, some guy came in the second the show opened with a hand truck and bought all 50 cases of 7.62 X 39 that one table had. The prices have gone through the roof, although some of that may have been due to the high world price of metals.
However.....people remember the Clintonista years with the ridiculous AWB, and don't want to be caught with their pants down again. This ultra leftist administration has appointed mostly Clinton era retreads, and together with a congress that is controlled by the kook fringe left, well, there probably is a real cause for concern. Folks I talk to are very concerned about probable (at least in their minds) gun and ammo restrictions or high taxation, an idea which has been endorsed by Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, Frank, etc. They all support a new AWB which would eliminate entire classes of firearms. And in addition to that, people are worried about personal safety. A large group of people are concerned about our increasingly trigger-happy militarized police forces and swat teams (can't say I blame them). Who wants to live in a police state?
Maybe U.S. citizens have nothing to worry about and everything will be peace and light. But given the track record and stated goals of these people, there would seem to be a real cause for alarm.
Unless the administration can convince the public that it really will do no harm, then I don't see any end to the demand.

As I've mentioned before, there are two possible outcomes of all this:

One, Obamaphobia is overblown, and hoarders end up with many years' worth of components that they paid through the nose to get. That leads to such a slump in component sales that the folks who didn't hoard will then see super-bargain prices and plentiful supplies.

Two, Obamaphobia is even worse than feared, and the possession of guns, ammo or components is utterly prohibited. Hoarders will be saddled with tons of very expensive stuff they can't use, can't sell and can't admit to owning.

    Either way, hoarders are phoocked.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

    Perhaps.
They also may well be the salvation of this Country, also.

Doing it as I can...as some point, one must set some priorities. I wish I had started this process a LONG time ago.[^]

    just funnin ya, I've got the same problem: saving it! Seems I'll make 500rds, shoot 400..Right now I've got reloaded about 1500 .45acp, 1200 38spl, 2500 40S&W, 400 9mm, 300 .357mag, 450 44mag, and about 150 500S&W...I just try and reload more than I shoot..and it gets expensive...but worth every penny[;)]

I have been hoarding ammo for years started when Clinto was elected the first time. Have 50,000 loaded rounds and another 50,000 componets for my everyday guns. I'm 0ver 50 so I doubt I'll be needing much in the future...and they ain't gonna find what I have!
call that alarmist call it what you want but I won't be begging for a box of 9mm or 45 acp anytime soon!

It will last at least 4 years, yes the current powers will most likely be preoccupied for the next 2 years, but who knows after that, I just try and buy a little more than I shoot. Went through 200 rds of 40sw and more 22lr on Sunday morning. My brother was down for the Super bowl and his 10 years old has never shot a gun before. My brother and I used to shoot every couple of days when we were young, you get busy when you start a family. I took about ten years off from shooting much, and no you don't pick up where you left off, I think I could shoot better when I was 14 then now.

I do not hoard. I do keep a good supply on hand. [:p] Went through my primers a couple of days ago. Only have about 23,000. Supply is getting a little low. This week I only purchased another 2,000 primers and 8 lbs of powder. Might need to pick up the pace. [}:)]

At my age I probably have enough to last me for the remainder of my shooting lifetime. However, at various times when we have "get-togethers" down at our little informal shooting range, I furnish most of the ammo for those who attend. I have a couple of cousins and a grandson or two that can go through plenty of rounds. In addition, I enjoy the reloading and plan to continue. It is very satisfying for me to see those who are newer to hunting handguns make progress in developing their skills.

I want to have at least 1000 rds for each caliber I shoot. More is better. Another reason I started casting my own bulllets.

I recently had some surgery which kept me in the house for a couple of months. I knew this was coming so I spent a lot of free time over the summer doing the hard work of sizing, trimming and priming cases by the bucketfull. That way I could do the easy charging and bullet seating w/o stressing myself through the December incarceration. Now I've got a bunch of ammo and the exercise helped get me back in condition. Properly stored, reloaded ammo and components last a long time. I aquired a bunch of military ammo cans and desicant to preserve the fruits of my labor until needed.
