Number 5 Cordite

I am wanting to load some blanks for a Greener Harpoon Gun, Mr. Greener advised me that the original blanks were loaded with 14.5 of number 5 Cordite.Does anyone know what modern powder would be a good replacement for this ,I think it would have to be something slow burning that would build enough presure to shoot a 16oz. Harpoon dart about 50 yards.Any info. would be most helpfull and appreciated.
It was used in a necked down and crimped 38 special blank.
Thanks. Paul

Cordite was a nitrocellulose, nitroglycerin and petrolatum propellant dissolved in a solvent until it could be extruded into long "strings" that were cut to length to fit into cartridges. They looked almost like spaghetti, and the cases had to be cylindrical to get the charge in. Shoulders and necks were formed AFTER the cordite was loaded!

There's no way on earth I'd guess what a modern equivalent would be, or would recommend it for a harpoon gun if I DID know.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.
