shot shell reload cost

alan selfalan self Member Posts: 328 ✭✭✭
Was going to reload some 12ga & 410 shells. first I put a pencil to the cost. What I found is it would cost more than if I just bought new shells at wally world. Just thinkin I can save the powder & primers etc.for when I can't buy shells at the store. OR Am I just missing something? alan

With the cost of shot ,you can buy loaded shells cheaper.
The 410 shells are still cheaper to reload due to smaller ammount of shot and powder.
Just finished 300 pcs in 410--- saved at least $2 per box .

I reload for comfort, off the shelve 12ga factory shells are too hot and throw WAY to much lead down range IMO as far as skeet and trap are concerned. I shoot/reload 4-5k a yr and reclaim most of my shot so my cost is minimal.

I can reload a box of 12 ga 7/8oz for 1.25 a box saving over 4 dollars a box which may or may not pay for the time I have into it. But it's a hobby and keeps me out of the bars.

Shot is starting to come down in price 25 bucks a bag here, 18 shells per pound of shot, 450 shells per 25# bag. Wad is 4 cents and primer 3 cents, I can reload a box for about $4.75 a box still saving over off the shelf cheapies currently they run 5.85 a box at wally's.

I now have a 28ga that will see virgin shot only, and I figure @ .15 cents a shell it will cost 3-4 dollars a box for 5/8 oz loaded 28ga shells

    Saving a TON of money @ $12+ a box

I just used the calculator and it worked for me, said I save about $3.00 a box versus buying store bought.
