shot prices?

Thinking of getting a reloading set up for 20ga so I can afford to shoot more skeet. However, I'm having a hard time finding prices on shot - only #8 shot I found was nickel plated lead, $50 for a 11lb bag. Based on this, a box of shells would cost me over $11 to load (3/4oz load).

So what is a more normal price for "just" lead shot so I can crunch the numbers? Primer powder and wad was about 10c per shell, its the shot that ran it up.

Thanks

Nickle plated shot is harder for premium hunting loads. Low antimony shot for most target shooting sells for $45 per 25 # bag in my area of MI. Bob

So only counting components, reloading will only save me $ if I can get lead for just less than $2.25/lb or so... based on buying Winchester field loads at wally world. This is just a break even price, and does not account for cost of a press or my time.

I am probably losing my but loading 12ga for shooting skeet and sporting clays ( and plan on being on your hands and knees at least once picking up dropped shot ) but I've been having blast playing with different "recipes" and it is kind of cool shooting your own shell as opposed to stopping by Wally World on the way to the club. Besides an evening watching TV isn't 1/2 as fun as being locked in the garage with talk sports radio on! [:D]

Dawson Enterprises in Massillon Ohio has magnun Eagle shot for $24 a bag, I was also buying Noble primers instead of Winchester 209s for around $97 per 5,000 as opposed to $144 for the Winchesters.
