Irons vs scopes

dbain99dbain99 Member Posts: 2,104 ✭✭✭
In a very informal competition, how wold one equalize scopes and irons?

AR platforms, 20 inch barrel with Nikon 4X14 to a 16 inch barrel with carry handle.

I was thinking double the distance for off hand shots and triple it for rested shots.

I will also post in GD to get other responses. [:D]

Have each shooter use both guns. IOW you each fire (say) 10 rounds offhand with your own gun/ammo, than trade for the next 10 rounds

I figured we would go that route but I wondered if there was a theoretical equalizer.

You don't need an equalizer. The guy with the scope just gets
to watch himself shake more. Even at long range, there is little
advantage to using a scope except to dope wind. (that's why we use
spoting scopes) A good set of iron sights will match a scope across
the course any time the shooters are equal.

The bigger questiom is How old are the eyes involved? As we age the abilility to see the front sight clearly diminishes. Another of mother nature's cruel truths. Some times going to an optical sight with its fixed focal plain a necessity and not an option
