i was just on wideners.com and saw that they have 30cal 240gr hpbt match bullets. i know that in long rang shooting its generally excepted that they heavier the bullet is for a particular caliber the better. but does anyone shoot these??? id imagin that the ballistics of this would be awesome but i can only imagin the recoil from pushing that heavy of a bullet to 2600+ fps.

I have shot them in the 300 Win mag in an Encore. Recoil was, shall I say, noticeable.....[B)][:0]

These heavy, long bullets are better in the 30-378 and other big powder burners shooting 1,000 yards or to the moon and further.

Seems like you would need a quicker twist than 1-10 for those long bullets.

10 twist will do 240gr. I am thinking of trying them in a 30", 10twist PacNor chambered in 300RUM

I us the SMK 240's in my .300 Whisper. I have a 1:8 twist but I am only pushing them at 1050 fps. Very quiet with the suppressor [:p]

Remember the one in ten twist was originally chosen for the 30'03 cartridge, which was a 200 grain bullet. The rifling twist was never changed when we went to the 150 grain 30'06.

The Fn/FAL uses a one in eleven twist for the 147 grain bullet.

f.f.e.: 1-10 was chosen for the Krag cartridge which used a 220 gr. bullet (as did the .30/03). Standard twist for the .308 and .30-30 is 1-12. I would think 1-12 would work fine for 180< gr. bullets in the 06. I have a 1903 that needs a new barrel and I'm tempted to try a 1-12.
