I am giving up on reloading.

I bought a reloading press, dies and cases and bullets, But I cant find primers, I never could. I go to the local stores and drive up to a hour away and everyone is out. I even heard the employees talking about getting to look at the primers that came in and when I asked they said none came in. Its the same thing on powders. Why cant the big companies keep up. So I have come to the conclusion that I am going to give up.

    Don't give up. Primers and powder have been very hard to find since the elections. People are buying them up faster than they are being made. Have you looked around online? I got some powder a few weeks back. Primers are the hardest thing to find. Do some online searches and yor may be able to find someone that has some in stock.

    Primers and powder are available at most gun shops and all gunshows in Va.

    Nothing is available now, the last time I checked the shops didnt have bullets primers, powder or cases. And I will notpay over 40 bucks for 1k of primers the people selling them for over 100 bucks are just plain * hats.

    Where are someof the places that sell powder and primers online. I will check I am only looking for a few different types of powder. primers I prefer CCI but I will almost take anything except federal.

    I use Gamaliel shooting supply in Kentucky .
    Zero reloading in Alabama .

    Places in SO IL still have a few things. No small pistol primers around but small and large rifle are available.

    I am 5 minutes NW of chicago. SO IL is to far of a drive, I work for the railroad and I am on call 24/7

    Yeah your up there. I am 30 min North of Carbondale. So i am even farther South then what you probly considerd. If you ever get down this way i could pick up a few things for you.

    I bought my primers way before the rush.Primers have doubled in price.This always happens when things are in short supply.The makers will catch up and the computer can help find them.Waitng to buy batteries after the power goes out dosent work.I always stock up on basic supplies, save chasing around looking for things when you run out.I started reloading in the 50s and bought supplies when I had the money.

    Yup. I'm with you I can't find small rifle primers anywhere.

    I came close in LA and watched a guy buy that last big box in front of me. LOL. I got to read the label and tried to interest him in selling me a tray or two. No such luck.

    The bright side, if it can be called that, is I have re-discovered my 7mm Rem Mag and now use that for my coyote hunting. I suppose when I run out of large rifle primers I'll then take up a crossbow or slingshot. Good luck!

    Lucky - there is plenty, if ya look.

    I just bought 5K Large Pistol Primers (Win) for $28/K, and two pounds of 3031 for $21 per. They also gifted me another two pounds of Powder, one of 3031, and one of 4198. Had to drive a couple hundred miles for it though.

    The Rockford Gander Mountain has some primers. They have large and small magnum pistol and a few large rifle. (I believe they are Federal)

    Dont give up! Supplies are getting hard to find but they are avaliable. It's just a matter of what price you are willing to pay and r how long your willing to wait for both online and regular brick
    retailers to restock. Some online places will put you on a waiting list if you ask. Also go to the gun shows to get supplies. Worse comes to worse you should be able to get your money back on the reloader if you sell it.

    Lucky, First to answer why? Just look on the reloading components section of GB. Hoarders saw this coming and bought up most of the supply so they can turn around and make $$$ on the products while demand is still high. If you don't mind falling into the hoarders trap then buy what they are selling on GB (nothing against GB). Second, don't give up. The hoarders will eventually get caught holding the bag and supply will catch up with demand. I too deal with the lack of rifle and pistol primer availability, but powder is available. Look at Grafs.com and MidwayUSA.com

    ' Giving up' is not an option I find in my dictionary.

    When one is face to face with a brick wall, one goes around it, over it, under it..or thru it.
    The other thing that makes this possible is PATIENCE...the patience to wait the grifters out and buy from them when they cannot hold out any longer on a falling market.

    I do not need primers...but there has been a few at every show I have been to the last few months...it requires the ability to actually LOOK for them and wait for a lower price.
    The day of/wanting something' and 'getting it' 15 seconds later is NOT over...if you have unlimited resources.

    Frankly, I find it a bit refreshing.. a breath of cool air, warning people about what MIGHT well happen here in America...we may no longer be able to satisfy our every little whim on the spot..as we have been trained to believe is our birthright.

    Back in the Clinton days primers disappeared. There were a few people that I know that bought up 1000's and waited for the price to peak so they could sell some and make a lot of money plus get their share free. Much to their dismay, they got caught with their britches down and all the stores had lots of primers, cheaper than what they paid for theirs!

    I went to two different gun shops in Tenn. Franklin Gun in Franklin, Tenn. had a very small supply of powder and primers. Had two shelves of black rifles, probably a hundred. Steves in Columbia, Tenn. was about the same, very sparce supply of powder and primers, not the ones I need. I need CCI 400 or 450 and CCI 500. I have had bullets ordered from Cabelas for .223 over a month, still waiting.

    I just picked up 16 lbs of powder 8 of titegroup and 8 of 335 it came out to 16.28 a lb. I think I got a good deal.

    I too live on the NW side of Chicago and saw powder and primers at GAT guns (http://www.gatguns.com/) and at Maxon's (http://www.maxonshooters.com/), both of them should not be far from you.

    On line I've bought at Powder Valley (http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/) and TNT Reloading (http://www.tntreloading.com/). I checked both sites and both are out of all primers. I don't know how long this drought is going to last but you just have to be persistent and vigilantly keep checking out places so when something does trickle in you can get some.

    There are two places here that sell reloading supplies and I check them everytime I go to town for small rifle primers. Two months, at least, and still not available. Sooner or later, the hoarders will get all they can afford and the stores will then be able to have them on their shelves.

    I just picked up 1K small pistol for 28 bucks today. I think alot depends on your geographic location as to what is available.
