Powder question.

I am working with a can of IMR 3031. This was an unopened metal can and is about 8 years old. It was stored at a friends shop that gets to about 80 degrees in summer. When pouring it into my measure I see rust colored dust (which I know is oxidation). The powder otherwise looks fine and has NO smell. I have not dealt with powder with rust dust that hasn't smelled pretty bad. Should I dump this powder or is it okay? I am leaning toward not using it but thought I would ask for input from people with more experience with this situation. Thank you.

    I reload for 45acp and I have been buying all the stuff to reload 223 and 9mm. what powder should I use for the 223? whats a good accurate powder.

    Well a lot depends on barrel twist and bullet weight but I've done well with 4895 for heavier bullets of 60 gr plus, BLC2 and H335 for 55 grainers... never done much with lighter bullets so I will leave that up to others.

    I have 55 grain and 62 grain bulets. There isnt one powder that works great for both?

    Accurate 2230. AROUND 24.0 grains. I only wrote that so you would get an idea of the mileage you get from a pound. Check a loading manual. This stuff meters like sand, is pretty cheap to buy an is clean.

    I will look into it. no winchester powder? I am trying to find one type of powder so I can stock up on it.

    W748 will be fine in the 223 with those bullets or lighter.

    There are literally dozens of powders that are superb in the 223. My current favorite is Ramshot TAC, which is a titch slower than W748 and MUCH cleaner burning. I can shoot hundreds of rounds a day with TAC and it is a three-patch cleanup, tops. It's even cheaper than most others.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

    I shoot 62s and 75s in my AR, both loaded with 748, and both shoot well.

    A lot of questions first. What is your rifle twist. 1-7 will shoot a heavyer bullet than 1-12. Are you wanting high velocity for expansion and killing or just wanting to punch paper. What ranges are you wanting to work with. What kind of gun as to I have a 14" contender,70 coyote, and a colt H bar AR-15 in 223. They all have a diffrent load for accuracy. I burn a faster powder for the contender and the AR-15. The slower powder for the 70 fouls the AR quicker. Each having a diffrent twist, so the only componets that are the same are the primers and case's, and I keep the lenghts the same so they all will cycle through the AR.

    How about Accurate 2460? I've got 55, 62, and 75 grain .223 projectiles and according to my Lee load data 2460 works in all three.. Any opinions on that?

    I might have to break brands. I was using titegroup for my pistol but I found accurate 3340 and ramshot tac the accurate is cheaper by 4 bucks so I might go with that since I am going to have to pay a haz mat fee.

    I am currently working loads using Hogdon vargent, I use it in my 22-250, 243, 2506,300 weatherby, 7mm, and the one for now I am playning with 375 H&H. the container gives load data for 223 to 375 hh. I have results that produce one ragged hole and were I come from that is just fine. I use to use 15 different powders and now since things are so much more $ I like only buying one type. you just have to remember no two guns are alike and can shoot the same load different.
