What's this guy thinking?

joker19joker19 Member Posts: 110 ✭✭
There are many places to get CCI small rifle primers. I just picked up 2000 at our Sportsman's Warehouse for about $22 per thousand and there is a guy trying to sell 1000 for $129 on the Gun Broker site? What's this about. I see people on this site paying $70 for them. I never have too much problem finding them. We have two gunshops here that always have primers of all types. Wow I must be missing something or I need to start selling these to the ones that are willing to pay that amount..........whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure the $129 is not for 5,000?

    joker19,

This is still a free enterprise system, at least for the time being. If a seller has buyers willing to pay those amounts, then he should collect and enjoy his profits. It's not really any of our business what he gets so long as the process is legal and above board.

Now if you're troubled by his profits, I suggest that you have the same ability to take some of your supply and put it up for Auction. Other than that he can charge and make what this market will bear whether we agree with his prices or not.

    Best.

First of all it was a comment! Second of all I don't appreciate being talked down to! You are correct, if someone wants to pay more than something is worth, go for it. The last time they did it started the mortgage foreclosure mess we are in at present. Come down off your high horse, all I did was make a statement and you read the riot act about free enterprise!!!

People are panicking. They think that Obama will pass some kind of executive raising taxes 500% or do something else. It's like the 1973 gas shortage when people were filling tanks when they were 3/4 full. It's stupid. Just a little looking around and you can find this stuff at reasonable prices. I can't wait to see primers selling on GB for $1.00 a piece!

    joker19,

Maybe you need to climb down.

The next thing you need to do is read the Posting Guidelines as your comments are not really acceptable to the owners of the forums in the first place. If you don't like the prices or the way the Auctions and forums work, you can stop posting.

These forums are paid for by free enterprise and the sales from the Auction side so the idea is very relevant whether you choose to accept that or not.

The mortgage crisis goes a lot deeper than just some folks wanting to pay more than something is valued.

I note, Mr Joker, that your original post contains the sentence "Whats that about" You failed to punctuate it, but it certainly appears to be a question. As such, the comments about free trade were apropos as an answer.

Here's an answer to your question: Whenever there is a shortage -whether artificial or not- there is sure to be a Black Market. You are seeing it.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Could be they are in an area like me. Went to every place that had primers. Bought what they had on hand. Each place I only was able to buy 100 count packs. 4-5 packs each place. Ended up with about 1500 of assorted sizes.

They could be geting worried like me. Now each time I check they are out.

Well I'd rather give up shooting than pay that much. Or just shoot blackpowder and .22s. While primers are scarce here, I can't say that you absolutely CAN'T find them- usually at about $40 a box but that's 1/3 what it's going for on those auctions!

Why is there no hazmat fee associated with this sale? If the seller were to charge a hazmat fee, who does he pay this fee to? Can an individual sell primer and powder and not pay a hazmat fee?

There are two stores here that sell reloading supplies. They have been out of small rifle primers for weeks and just laugh when asked when they will be getting more. I am down to 100 or so now. I wished we had a Sportsmen Warehouse here but they would probably get sold out too.

My 2 cents. So far we are a free somewhat capitalist Country. That being said these fella's can ask whatever price they want. When a person is price gouging it tells me a lot about their character and I will never do business with them, ever. Ken

Sportsman Warehouse corporation or just your local business closing down? I have family in Denver so maybe I should have them go check out their store and see if they have any.

Someone comments on some attempted price gouging (legal or not) and a couple of moderators wrap themselves in the flag and lecture about free enterprise??? Hey; newflash it is an appropriate discussion because this whole site is based on....yea; ETHICAL BEHAVIOR!! When we lose that, we lose everything, and yes I agree with the other gent also that it is unethical behavior that has put this great nation in dire straits and may comprimise the foundations upon which free enterprise operates. My two cents; back off, his questions are appropriate and anything resembling unethical price-gouging, while entirely legal here, should be fair game for discussion, free-speech still trumps free-enterprise.

    norgexxx,

JustC's been busy or I'm sure he would have deleted this by now. Other Moderators can't take action in forums that they aren't listed on.

You're relatively new here so I'll make the same suggestion for you. Please read the Posting Guidelines which are found at the top of each page in the link under the Gunbroker logo. You need to read all of the rules set out in that link. There are some rules that have direct application to this subject.

    From the Gunbroker Posting Guidelines:

    Other stuff we automatically delete:

Complaints or criticism about GunBroker.com, its staff, its policies, or any buyer or seller on that site. If you have a problem with an auction transaction use the auction feedback system and/or contact tech support.

You might might be interested to know that it's the Auction side that pays the operating costs of these forums. Without the financial support from the Auction side, these forums wouldn't exist. ADMIN on the Auction side sets the rules; their house, their rules.

So before you go telling us to 'back off' you would do well to make sure you understand these rules.

If this is unbearable to your sensibilities, you can always start your own forum with your own money and make any rules that you wish.

    Best.

Primer prices asked are no more out of line than some of the mimimum bids on guns. Nobody has to bid if they do not like the prices.

The guidelines are clear. Should anyone wish to discuss the component situation, then word your post in a manner that doesn't intrude on those guidelines. Comments about gouging or other concerns need to be addressed to admin and I am sure they will give it all the consideration it's due.

Maybe try stating that primer prices are wayyyy up and you simply won't buy any at that price. No rules broken.

You don't see me complaining,..and I probably use more primers than most here. However,..I am also not buying them on the auction side until the doom and gloom buyers are all full up and the manufacturers have caught up. The the prices will fall which will in turn reduce the auction prices,....THEN I'll buy. Until then,..it is a "point and case" example of "THE LAW OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND". Welcome to America,..the land of capitalism.

    and another piece of advice to all;
if you take issue with another person's response, then request clarification. Should you still take issue with the poster, then take it off the boards. This site is provided at no cost to us, and at cost to the site owners. Don't F^(& it up for the rest of us.
