About 3000 fps worth of 4198 and 52/55 grain pills with Rem.7 1/2 works for me.

I have seven rifles in .222 Rem. and they all seem to like something different as follows:

Anscutz 153: 21.5 gr. IMR4198 with 40 gr. Berger HP or 40 gr. Nosler balistic tip.
BSA: I haven't found anything yet that this rifle likes much!
Ithaca LSA: 21 gr. IMR4198 with 50 gr. Hornady SPSX.
Marlin 322: 21 gr. IMR4198 with 50 gr. Hornady spire.
    Remington 700: 23 gr. H335 with 55 Sierra BT.
Marlin 422 "Varmint King": 25 gr. Benchmark with 40 gr. Sierra blitz king.
Remington 722: As "Varmint King" and Remington 700.

In addition, most of them shoot pretty well with the garden variety 50 gr. Remington PSP factory load.

My best group ever came with 22.5 gr. of AA2015 (BR2015 back then) behind a 50 gr. Sierra Varminter.... .013" five shot group. Many a Montana gopher fell to that load when I was out there. Too bad I had to sell the rifle for money.
