who makes a good mild load for 45 long colt? and what size is it?

    Black Hills has a 250gr cowboy action load. They are all mild for shooters that shoot original Colt SA'S. I think Hornady makes one also. Look for any brand that lists cowboy action loads, and all are mild lead bullet loads.

    The problem right now might be finding some in stock.

    Mag-Tec makes some good cowboy ammo, so does Ultramax. The Ultramax seams to be a little dirtier than the Mag-Tec, but usually a little cheaper if you can find either one.

    Actually, both the regular Remington and Winchester loads for it are pretty mild, because they have to be safe in even the oldest Colt SAA guns chambered for 45 Colt. Both of them use nearly identical 255-gr soft lead bullets at a nominal 850 fps.

    Cowboy loads are even milder, with lighter bullets at slower speeds.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.
