More useless information - REVISED

Bubba Jr.Bubba Jr. Member Posts: 8,204 ✭✭✭✭
I went to my pusher for my weekly fix of reloading paraphernalia last week. Amongst my stash, I acquired 3 bags of range brass in .40 S&W. I just finished cleaning and sorting the brass and came up with the following useless bit of info.

The top 5 headstamps in the 300 rounds were:

1. Winchester 28.8%
2. PMC 18.3%
3. Speer 14.2%
4. Blazer 13.7%
5. *I* 6.9%

If heavier cases reflect a better quality case (ie. more brass), then the following actually may be somewhat useful. This data was compiled by taking the average weight of 5 random cases.

EDIT: I listed the rest of the case weights, as I should have done to start with. There are some common cases that I didn't have on hand to weigh. If I come up with some cases that are not on this list, I will add them later.

1. CBC..... 70.52 gr.
2. Winchester..... 69.02 gr.
3. Blazer..... 68.40 gr.
4. CCI..... 68.36 gr.
5. Speer..... 67.88 gr.
6. *I*..... 67.16 gr.
7. R +P..... 66.80 gr.
8. S&B..... 66.60 gr.
9. PPU..... 66.20 gr.
10. GFL..... 66.12 gr.
11. PMC..... 65.16 gr.
12. FED..... 64.32 gr.
13. FC..... 64.20 gr.
14. Fiocchi..... 62.88 gr.

The headstamps represented in this totally unscientific random sampling include the following in no particular order:

Winchester
Speer
Blazer
GFL
FED
*I*
PMC
Fiocchi
CCI
CBC
S&B
FC
R +P
PPU

EDIT #2: I had another lapse in my busy schedule, so I measured my 9mm cases that I have in stock. Most of what I had, have been reloaded, but here are some awaiting their new fate.

1. RP +P - NICKLE.....59.76
2. CBC.....58.88
3. WIN.....58.56
4. RP +P - BRASS.....58.48
5. RP.....58.32
6. FC.....55.08

This is a very incomplete list, but I will update it as I get more variety of brass.

There, I've wasted enough of your time, I now return you to regular programming.

I agree that will come in handy for someone. I personally weigh all my cases. Im picky, almost to picky. I sometimes get laughed at. I like consistency.

Now here is a fellow that truly has too much time on his hands.
Oh well, I guess it keeps him off the street and out of saloons.
    Have fun.

CBC, aka Magtech, seems to be some of the best brass that I have.

Yep, you got that right. That's what happens when you are retired, and you are caught up on your "honey do list". Well at least she thinks I'm caught up.[:D]

A lot of counting and math for figures no one cares about, but thanks for the effort anyway.

You should melt each case down and see what the ratio of zinc to copper is, then start weighing some primers. It would be very time consuming but alot more useless information could be learned.
