6MM PPC American

Just picked up a rifle at an estate sale that is barrel stamped 6mm ppc american. I googled around and find there are a lot of different 6mm ppc chamberings. Any ideas?

The 6PPC was developed in 1975 as a Wildcat with no factory loads available. Since these were all custom cut chambers based on the 220 Russian case, exact chamber dimensions varied slightly. Sako chambered factory rounds and made ammo available and called it the 6PPC USA. Ruger, Kimber and Cooper also offered rifles with this chambering. Norma, Lapua and Sako make brass for this caliber. The chamber dimensions for your 6PPC American are most likely the same. Who made and chambered this barrel ?? Bob

    goldigger077,

While SAKO has created an official SAAMI 6PPC round named the 6PPC USA, most of the 6PPC shooters in North America are running tight match chambers cut with custom reamers. There will be variations from one reamer to another, enough so that custom dies are generally recommended for match guns. The Sako 6PPC USA is slightly larger, and will not fit in most current match chambers.

    Best.

    ADDED:

You can cast the chamber with Cerrosafe to get the dimensions of your particular chamber and then call Redding or one of the custom die makers to see if they have what you need. I know Redding makes the USA variation for the Sako brass.

    Best.
