Not many published loads for this new "mouse" gun. Anyone have some favorites they would share with me?

Good morning all, Anyone have any starting loads for 17 A. hornet? I using Kindler's manual now. He suggests Vit. 120(I can't find it for less than $60.00 per lb. shipped),AA1680 (I have it,but it burns lihe waste engine oiland groups SUCK too).Haven't tried 4227 yet.I am hoping for info on Ramshot enforcer ,AA 5744 , AA#7 ,AA#9 , or something along these lines. Any help will appreciated. Respectfully, 637e . Thanks in advance

H4198, in the Short Cut flavor. Loads for the 17 AH are in the Hodgdon Annual Manual and online. Rather than risk a typo in listing loads here, I refer you to them.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Welcome to the forum. 17 AH is a great little cartridge. I would be very careful with Kindler's loads...I can't use some of his starting loads without pressure signs.

Sorry to hear 1680 doesn't work well for you...its my favorite powder for the 17 AH, VV120 works well too but 1680 shoots better...1/2 inch groups at 100 yards with 20 gr vmaxs.

I am using 12.3 grains, mv is about 3600 fps. (chronographed is actually 3577 fps). I started at 12 grains and worked up 1/10 grain at a time. Groups started getting worse so I stopped.

What kinda rifle are you using? I have a converted Ruger 77/22 Hornet...using a 17 cal Lawrence barrel.

    5mmgunguy, I'm using a Ruger 77 hornet also. I had a 22 inch 1 in 9 twist Douglas installed.Lugs have been lapped, action trued up and glass bedded.Brownell trigger upgrade(about 1 1/2 lb. pull). Btw, H4198 sucks too. 637e

cheelo8668...the gunsmith who did the work for me did much the same...pillared and glass bedded the action, free floated the barrel... and one more thing he put a spacer in the bolt...since it is a rear/or mid lock up he put a spacer in...said it makes things tighter in the front end of the bolt. Or maybe I just got lucky...anyway it shoots really quite well....its my favorite 17 cal...my second favorite sub 22 cal is my 19 Calhoon...its on a Ruger 77/22 Hornet too. Its got a pacnor barrel...and shoots about the same as the 17 AH about 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards...I don't think I had the spacer put in it...not sure would have to check.

I have a Winchester low wall chambered in 17 K hornet, which is not too different from the Ackley version. Tried several different powders, including 4227 and 4198, before landing on Hodgdon Lil' Gun. Burns clean and gives 1/2-inch groups at 100 yards with 8.3 grains behind a 25-grain Hornady hollowpoint bullet. Seems to be easy on cases, too.

5mmgunguy: It has been a while since I chronographed this load, and I can't seem to come up with my records for this cartridge. I do remember being shocked at how fast it was going, though.

I found a load with Lil Gun in the relaoders nest.... 10 grs of Lit Gun behind a 20 vmax.
