It this as good as it gets????

I am loading some 230gr, JHP, Golden Saber bullets. It looks like one of the best loads for this round is with 7.0grains of 800X. Does this sound good, or is their something better? Thanks!

Your 7.0gr load is what Ken Waters found to be his best for the 45acp.in his book. I used to load it for a 200SWC in mine. It was the most accurate load I ever had.
The only thing I found was I got a od of unburned flakes with it.

Just me but 800 X powder does not measure well in a progressive press may be fine in a one at a time operation. UNIQUE may be a better choice . My self I use Bulls-Eye or 231.

Sorry, I forgot to mention .45acp. I've used Bullseye for years, but have used Titegroup for my latest .45 loads.

Perry shooter- Like many of us in the 70's, I used Unique and Bullseye. I believe I only used Unique when loading .44 mag. Would you choose Unique for the .45acp? Would I be better off with Bullseye or 231?

    Thanks to all!

Hello IMHO as the pressure goes up the cleaner the burn of the powder will be .I used to load a bunch of 230 grain ball ammo THE cleanest and best measuring and best grouping powder I ever used was Vihta Vuori N320 and N340 . Most times Ball powder will measure better then Flake powder and when you use a powder measure and don't weigh your loads you can have powder bridging with flake powder this may not cause much trouble with lighter loads but Can & Does become a source of possible over load if loading near the MAX.. Have loaded 100's of thousands of rounds with bulls-eye powder with a star reloader and think this powder measure system is the best on the market . I have had Zero problems I have also use most likely 50 pounds of 231 with no problems Unique is DIRTY at low pressure but Clean at high pressures . The only thing I dont like about powders that were made primary for shot shells is they dont measure well in ANY measure I have ever used .

Hello for the most part the Higher the pressure the cleaner the burn is on most any powder . When loading near the Max with any powder in a small case like a 45ACP how a powder measures is a very important factor. most any powder measure will do a good job on Ball Powder like 231. Powder measures like the one on a STAR "IMHO the best powder measure of any progressive loader" do an excellent job on Bullseye. but other progressive presses have a hard time with large flake powders like those designed primary as a shot shell powder . The bet powder and cleanest burning IMHO is the V.V. N310 N320 and N340 it burns so clean the new case will still look new after it is fired. but this powder is $$$$ YMMV Cheers "PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN"

Thanks, Perry Shooter! I see what you mean regarding ball vs flake powders. I still reload the old fashion way with my Rock-Chucker, Uniflow powder measure, and Ohaus scale. Since I was going to load some Golden Saber bullets I really wanted to use what's best. I have plenty of Titegroup and 800X. I usually use a mid power load with the Titegroup which works fine. Thanks for your time, and expertise.
