do I need to use magnum primers for H110 in 357 or 44 mag or will standard small and large pistol primers get the job done?

You need them. Three things are true about H110/W296 (the same powder in different cans):

    1. Do NOT reduce loads by much if at all. Hangfires or pressures spikes can result.

    2. Always use magnum primers.

    3. You need very heavy bullet pull. A combo of a heavy bullet, minimal case expansion and hard crimp is best.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.
