Primer Removal Problem

I have about 150 pieces of PMC and Federal 223 brass. I tried to decap and size the cases the other day and couldn't get the primers pressed out. It was like the primer was bending outward, but wasn't letting go of the primer pocket. I had to remove the shell holder and take a screwdriver and pop the primers off. I did this to three cases and stopped messing with it. What is my problem or what am I doing wrong?

Your decapper has slide up some. Depending on who's die you are using, Lee in particular. The collet that holds the sizer ball and decapper can move up if you have a hard primer. Slide it down, tighten it back up. Some of that brass may have crimped primers which doesn't allow the primer to be pushed out quite as easily.

Thanks a lot. I thought the pin wasnt down far enough, but i had deprimed remington with no problem and had not touched it since. Will try it out. Thanks.

Sounds like a LEE deprimer problem. Put it back dowm and tighted the heck out of it. I had the same problem with mine with military brass.

Nope RCBS. That was the problem. it was set way back in there. i may have taken it apart for some reason and messed it up. It did just fine after that. used the deburring tool to remove the crimp. hard on the hands but i did get 100 loaded so far today.

some of your PMC brass is made to mil specs. I have both 30-06 & 233 brass mfg by PMC. Since they are made to mil spec, they have crimped in primers. I too have had difficulty removing the primers. Once you get the primers out & the crimp removed, the brass is great.
