Steel Shotshell reloaders

hrbiehrbie Member Posts: 521 ✭✭✭
Well i was toying with the idea of trying to do some steel loads this summer for next years duck season. I have heard alot of guys say that steel is a whole different ball game when it comes to reloading it.

For those of you who have done it what is your opinion on reloading steel?

It is a bit of a pain but it can be done. If you have an older press you will probably need some kind of "steel conversion kit" as I did for my older MEC. This is necessary because the harder (and usually larger size) shot does not "flow" as easally as lead so you need special shot bars with rubber or plastic "bumpers" on the lip of the shot cavity, larger diameter drop tube, etc. Also you need special wads which are made of much stronger plastic to protect your barrel from the much harder pellets.

All that being said it can be done - and they do kill ducks.
