Follow up to Hand Prime or Not...............

Thanks for all the info. I see many of you use Lee, and many use RCBS hand primers. The Lee primer sells at Midway for under $13, while the RCBS sells for $40. Is there enough difference in quality and/or operation to justify such a huge price difference????? Thanks for your responses.

I use two Lee's and a friend has the RCBS. He has much more trouble with it than I have with the Lee's.

I looked at a Lee one today, and it does seem much simpler than my RCBS. Maybe if I wear the RCBS one out I will try the Lee. RCBS needs some attention during the installing shellholder step to keep from having the handle linkage open too far and having to put the guts back in.

Been using the LEE for 20+ years. I have had three different RCBS priming tools and none of them worked as well. I still use the LEE when I am running single stage.

The weak point of the Lee is the small collar that keeps the shellholder in place. It will break eventually - and Lee will happily send you a whole new unit, thus providing you with spare parts.

The "secret" to keeping a Lee Auto-Prime running is to apply a tiny dab of grease to both ends of the connecting link, annually. That's all you need to do, but you DO have to do that or the metal will wear away.
