Need a load for 45-70 using Reloader 7

Using a 400 grain Jacketed bullet, midrange load suitable for lever actions (not trapdoor loads), anyone have a Barnes book that shows a powder charge for the 400 grain JFP?
Thanks!

    From Barnes Manual # 3..............
    FOR THE RUGER #1 ONLY
    Bullet: 400 gr. F.N.S.P.
    Powder: RL 7
    Start: 44.0 grains = 1707 fps
    Max.: 48.0 grains = 1862 fps
As usual, be careful; your mileage may vary.

Ken has given you a good load, I have a Mauser bolt action in 45-70 with a 22" barrel, I use RL #7 for it with 400gr Barnes SST bullets. Works great on the elephants in the tomato garden.
52.5grs RL #7 and a Win LRP primer.
This is a very warm load.

    Thanx, Capt.
I trust loads from the books, but loads from "who knows where"
are worked up very slowly and carefully.
    Just makes good sense.

The Lyman manual (48th ed.) has three sections for the 45-70. They separate the Trap Door, lever guns and modern single shots (ie. Ruger #1). Their starting load for a lever gun with Re7 and a 405 gr jacketed bulletis 41 gr for 1602 fps@20,500, max is 46gr for 1795 fps @27,100.
