Just purchased a Remington 700 Sendero in 25-06 and was wondering if anyone had any pet loads for deer and the occasional wild boar?

My Ruger 77 likes 50.3 grs of IMR 7828 with a hornady 117gr interbond. IMR 7828 is pretty slow burning and I originally had it for a .257 weatherby mag. When I got rid of the weatherby, I had to find something else to put the powder in and it shot real well. I have taken a deer at less than 5 yards with this load and the bullet did massive damage, yet passed through. I expected it would have blown up at basically point blank range.

I've had very good results with Sierra 100 grain spbt with AA3100 or IMR 7828. Used for coyote and deer it gives good penetration but may not exit deer on close shots. I've seen this bullet kill some pretty good sized bucks in their tracks at 250-300 yards. Another decent economical bullet is the Remington 100 PSP which we used on several deer in factory loads with similar results. I'm not sure how well either will work on hogs since we don't have any around north Missouri. The Sierra 117 might be a better choice for such use.

Thanks for the loads. I will try each and see which is more accurate. I am thinking of using H4831 to start and then maybe AA3100. That is two powders that I know I have in my stash. I also thought about trying the 110 gr Nosler Accubond.

Mine was all over the place with the 4831, but I would try it before I went out and bought anything else. I was hoping to see some loads also, but it doesn't look like there are a whole lot of 25-06 shooters on here.

One of the better articles I have seen on the 25-06 was written by Layne Simpson in Shooting Times magazine in the last two years or so, but I cannot find the hardcopy. A link of the article is below, but I do not believe that it contains the excellent load data that was in the original hardcopy article. If anyone on the forum can provide a link to it for laylandad, please do so.

I have a ruger mod77 and a custom remington 700 both in 25-06.I have excellent results in both rifles with 48 grains of IMR4350 pushing a 120 grain Sierra BT at 2900 fps with winchester large rifle primers

That's ironic that you suggested the exact load that I tried today. The only difference is I used Fed. 210's. Great results considering the 10-15 mph gusts of wind today. Thanks to all who have replied.

I probably wouldn't advise starting out this hot but i have gotten great results with 55.3 grs of IMR 4831... i shoot a rem 700 ss synthetic and have never had any signs of excessive pressure. i use fed 210 match primers pushing sierra 120gr hpbt. i clocked it on a pact chrony around 3230 to 3270 fps. with groups right around the 1 inch mark. very nasty out to about 400 yds

I have a Browning A-Bolt 25-06. I have had good luck with Nosler 100gr. ballistic tips and H4831(55.0gr). Devestating on North Dakota whitetails out to about 250 yards. Boars, I hear, are a tough animal. I would look for a thick jacket bullet ( Barnes, etc.) Good luck and enjoy your new rifle.

I use IMR 4350 and the Sierra 120 gr with excellent results...also loves the Sierra 100 gr bullet...3400 fps mv (chrono) and 1/2 groups at 100 yards.

That sounds like extraordinary performance you are getting, with very good accuracy. Are you sure that it is 3200 fps plus?

yes Steve if the pact chrony is accurate it 3200 fps at the lower end ive shot this load from the bench for several years now and its always around the 1 inch mark and blistering fast.. I actually was going to send the rifle out to h&s precision to have the put a custom barrel on it but i was afraid I wouldnt be able to use that load anymore.. in the fact that a chamber change might give me pressure problems. i do get one heck of a muzzle flame thoughquote:Originally posted by stevecrea

I got a 1000 Hornady .257 117 grain BTSPs(Interlocks I believe)with the Lock-N-Load. I would like to work up a good load for these and use them for longrange chucks. I would probably gravitate toward IMR and H4831, 4350, and some other fairly slow burning powders.

But, I have to tell you, that is scorching velocity that you are getting!! No signs of pressure?

have a newly chambered brux on a rem 700,1/9 twist,26 3/4 in,cal 2506 rem.the past several years have shot the following load in early ruger 77's w/douglas barrels.spreer 100 gr SPBT, #1408,56.5 gr H4831 and win lg rifle primer.has been a tack driver in rugers, never a case/pressure problem.anyone see any issues w/this load in my brux rem 700? thanks

as long as the chamber is relatively the same dimension, and the throats are similar. As usuall, back off a grain or so, then come back up watching for pressure.
