Tighten/Loosening Die Nut

Hey gang. Do you all use a 29mm or equivalent wrench to tighten the lockdown nut on your dies or do you finger tighten?

I usually finger tighten real tight but I notice they come loose with heavy reloading, so am thinking about getting a cheap used wrench for this.

Dial calipers say 28.9xx mm, just wondering the fractional equivalent.

I use a wrench for the reason you mentioned.

Some if not all die makers offer a combo wrench that fits their stuff just right.

I just use channel-locks on mine.

I don't use a lock nut. I use Forster rings, it will save you all the pain. [8D] I have a large wrench set, I will go check.

Lee lock rings would use a 1" 1/8 wrench.

I have an adjustable wrench hanging on a nail at knee level just under my press. I tighten/loosen the nut and put it back where it's always handy.

I always just finger tighten. The exception is in my turret press; if I have a dedicated turret head to that caliber I do tighten down with a spanner wrench to make sure they aren't going anywhere. Otherwise they hold for the 30-50 rounds of any 1 caliber I do at a time.

Large pliers or channel locks work fine for me. Cheaper too since I have to have them for plumbing and other "honey do" odd jobs around the house anyway.

I keep 2 wrenches on the bench. One standard large set of channelocks for the American calibers and 1 large pair of Metric channelocks for all the metric calibers. Need the right tool for the job ya know
