HOW IT WORKS:
There will be four measurements for the Big Mama scoring system. You will be responsible for scoring your own deer with a witness signing to verify your score. There will be no individual or individuals designated as official scorers. It will be your responsibility to submit a fair and accurate score. The hunter harvesting the highest scoring doe of each year will be awarded a trophy if their are at least twenty (20) entries. . There will be no cash awards so there is no reason to submit a false score.
The measurements are as follows:
1) measure the length of the deer from the tip of its nose along its backside to the bottom of its tail. The length of the tail is included as part of the measurement.
2) Measure the circumference of the deer's neck in a location, which includes the white patch on the deer's throat or directly beneath the chin if the deer doesn't have a white patch on its throat. If the deer happens to have two white patches on its neck the patch closest to the chin will be the patch used for the neck measurement.
3) Measure the length of all four hooves.
4) Measure the length of both ears from the base of the skull to the tip of the ear. The ear measurements will be taken on the forward facing portion of the ear.
Measurements should be taken to the nearest one-eighth inch. The doe must score at least 90 inches in southern states or provinces to be considered a Big Mama. Southern states are as follows: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, NM, OK, SC, TN, TX, and Mexico. All other states and provinces are considered northern. Northern does must score at least 100 inches to be considered a Big Mama.
If interested in registering your doe in the Big Mama scoring system please complete the official score sheet. Have the score sheet signed by the hunter and a witness who observed the scoring. Enclose one photograph of the hunter with the deer if possible. The photograph will not be returned. Enclose a $10 fee. Make checks payable to Big Mama and mail to:
