COMPOUND BOW RELEASE

Bought my grand son a bow release the kind that you push a plunger to release and it won't work even on a 35# bow. He busted his mouth with it and I thinking he was using it wrong busted my mouth with it! Went to Dicks and bought him a truflite junior release and it was too short. Went back and bought hima full size one and it was too long. He couldn't pull the bow back with it. BTW he's 8 years old. He wants a release pretty bad but I don't know the first thing about bows. Any ideas out there? Yes I went through all the adjustments. The release with the plunger would work for him if it would hold.
