Bow string damage

Has anyone one ever experienced a string failure such as mine?
I ordered a new string for my Ben Pearson recurved bow at Sportsman paradise. The young man behind the counter told me he had to build it. I waited a few days and picked it up. Unfortunatly, after firing 5 arrows, the string ripped into the top nock separating the wood and splitting the bow about 4 inched into the top arm.
Upon comparing the string to an original factory one, I noticed that the loops were not tied around the loops, therefore allowing the strings to separate around the nocks.
The force caused the string to rip right thru.
I dont think this was a bow failure, but rather the fault of the string.
Anybody care to share any info or opinion?
Thanks!

You can wax strings on cross bows to extend the life where rubbing will take a toll.
After 5 pulls a failure like you mentioned is from a string that had a problem.
