I have heard it both ways. Which is right. Could you was all but the area that touches the rail?

My Barnett Predator I got last winter says to lube the rail, wax the string, & wax the cables every 20 shots.

I use some synthetic lube I bought from a local store after my Barnett lube ran out.

I wax everything I can reach. Strings aren't really expensive but (from what I've heard) a bear to replace so I'm trying to ensure mine lasts as long as possible. My Barnett has at least 200 shots on the original string and now that I have the sight dialed in, I don't shoot it as much as when it was new. A few shots before hunting for a zero check and arrow test and I'm done.
