Scents

CubsloverCubslover Member Posts: 18,601 ✭✭
What scents are in your bag when you head out everytime?? Any good or bad experiences? Stuff to stay away from? I know just about anything from Tinks is good stuff. Ever tried "Buck Fever"?

Any tips or pointers?

I use scent shield fall blend and have used it for quite a while seems to work well. Its just a spray on scent shield, I am not quite as * as other people about sent because it would just be a pain in the butt to be * at times.

I was everything in a detergent designed for hunters (think it's made by Scent Shield). Then I throw everything in a dryer with these special dryer sheets that smell like wet soil. I pull everything out of the dryer and it smells like the forest floor. I seal it up in a bag and activate my carbon jacket to wear under it all to control my own human scent. I wipe down the bow and arrows the morning of the hunt with special scent eliminating wet wipes. I brush my teeth without toothpaste. I wear scent-eliminating antiperspirant and I eat an apple on the way out the door. Chewing Clorets uses chlorophil to eliminate your mouth odor. I wipe down hands and face with the scent eliminating wet wipes and I spray my boots down with Scent Shield spray. I tuck a few of the soil-scented dryer sheets in my pockets and one around my neck under my neck-gaiter just to make sure.

I put doe estrus on my boots once as cover scent (was dumb and didn't know it was an attractant). I didn't see any deer that day so they must not have been rutting. I HAVE seen how bucks react to doe estrus when the time of the season is just right. It's like magic. A friend of mine used it to bring in a gorgeous 9-pointer. That big buck went from post to post along the fenceline just following the trail of scent that my buddy laid out.

You can get deer attractant incense sticks. One year I put all my hunting clothes in a storage closet outdoors on my apartment balcony. I hung them all up in the storage closet--everything I was going to wear (including socks and boxer-briefs). I lit a few of the attractant incense sticks and smoked the whole lot of it. I threw it in a sealed bag and went hunting. I got my first deer that year. I probably saw 8 deer between the time the sun came up and 9am. I wasn't trying to use it as an attractant--just a cover scent. It didn't hurt none because I bagged a HUGE doe!
