Ive' been using climbing stands for years and sometimes I miss judge how much of and angle to start with at the base of the tree and thats not so bad when the foot platform is slightly pointing up. However when it's pointed down it can make for a real uncomfortable hunt and who wants to decend and readjust early in the am . check this out and see what you think. watch the video.

I undersand this is not a new topic. Just wondering what climbing stand you all have and how you like it. Thinking about getting another. I did buy one from dicks that I will leave in the woods cause it weighs 28 lbs but for 99 bucks I figured what the heck.. I like my summit because no pind or parts..... they have one out now called timbertall weighs only 12 pounds but it has pins for locking soknowing me they would be lost real fast.[;)]

Not bad, but for the price I will stick with my summit. Thoes just don't look very comfortable for a long day in a tree.

    Mag:
I carry a saw for just such trees. I can cut the limbs in the way on the way up. Most of the time I make sure there is a tree behind me to break the outline with the sky. If not, I can attatch some of the branches to the stand with my pull up rope.
Climbers are so much more stable than hang on stands. I feel much more safe in one than climbing steps and then crawling onto a hang on stand.

Dsco, The hang on stand I have(gorilla silverback)13lbs has a tightening screw. I tell ya that stand doesn't budge or squeak. When you have to get down to whizz or whatever I just quietly cimb down leave and come back. Where I hunt mostly public land you can't cut anything or use tree screw steps. I used to be a carpenter building custom homes. So I'm like a monkey when it come to climbing. Just a different siuation. But we all do what we can.[:)]

Mag I too hunt a lot of public and also some private land. The public land you can not leave a portable stand up overnight, can not use screw in steps, can not even leave up ladder stands. You can however cut as many branches as needed for climber stands. Also I have recieved no resistance from any private land owners over cutting limbs or using climbers.

I guess it comes down to preference... Just like anything else we toss around.

Dsco I forgot to mention about cannot leave the stands up overnight. A real pain compared to private land owners that setup stands in july or sooner.[:(]

I dont know[?] just thought it was kind of a neat concept. I've sat for hours on end uncomfortable a few times because I miss judged the tree.

Im sure it's been tested and certified.[B)][:0] Will be calling to buy my Illinois licence in exactly 15 min.[8D]
