I set up in a bunch of white oaks. There are so many acorns there it is hard to walk on the hill. The deer trails looked more like cow paths... I was walking in for the first time hunting for the year and had 2 does I could have shot in an old overgrown hayfield. About 30 or so yards, but with my climber on my back, sight cover still on, and release in my pack they were safe. I climbed up only about 12' and sat for about an hour. In that time I saw 13 more deer, including the one I shot. I was getting redy to draw on a doe about 30 yards out that was heading tward one of my shooting lanes and heard something off to the left. I turned to see a bigger doe at 15 yards and closing! As I turned to shoot her she saw me and we had a 5 minuet stare down. I won, she put her head down and I drew... She turned a little more broadside and I let fly at 5 yards! She did jump my string a little and the arrow hit too far back, but the Muzzy did it's job. Arrow went in at the diaphram on the left side and came out the right hind quarter. That is a lot of deer to go through! She left a good blood trail, and I found my arrow about 40 yards down it. Found the deer about 300 yards from where I shot her. What a stinky mess to field dress... But then again they are never that good.

I am taking a break from butchering her now. All skinned out and quartered. Too bad I shredded a backstrap and tenderloin. Oh well. Now it is time to buck hunt.

This is my first bow kill in 15 years! Feels good. Even better than with a firearm which I have been doing all along.
