Deer Scents ??

I met a hunter that told me whitetail deer leave a danger scent on the ground to warn other deer of DANGER. I have never heard of this. Is this true ?

    i have never heard of that i have had deer to scent me and run off then 30min to 1 hr later another deer come into the patch

    I have heard it and somewhat believe it. I spooked one the other day taking picutres and didn't see anymore deer from that stand the next 2 hunts.

    This is a quote from a field editor/researcher of Deer & Deer Hunting magazine - "No one knows for sure. It is believed that the metatarsal gland leaves an odor for other deer to recognize danger but this is only speculation."
