Ben
why does this deer have a tag in it's right ear, visible in both pictures?
Because it is a farmed deer full of roids. He is nice but not fair chase.
ty Gagirl, before i started pointing fingers and calling names i wanted someone else to tell me what i already thought, for a big ole buck he sure the hell is skinny
Skinny, heck you would be too if you had to haul that HUGE RACK around.[:p]

He is on a deer farm. Not a game farm, he is not for hunting but for breeding. that is the story I heard/read on another site.
that's pretty interesting to know... just out of curiosity, why would they breed deer? i was under the impression that the deer pop. was doing pretty good. not trying to sound like a smart alleck, maybe i'm having a brain fart at the moment, but why would they breed deer? testing?
I know it may sound crazy but there are deer farms, there are several deer farmers here in Illinois. In fact there was just a huge auction where they sold feeders, feed, straws of the sticky stuff, its real folks just like cattle farms and horse farms. At least twice a week I have to do some diagnostic work for some deer that came from a farm. I know it from a farm cause the ID is an ear tag number. There is big money in getting good genetics and selling them to game farms or the sticky stuff for breeding. I work with a lady that has 6 deer now. She has to be CWD free for 4 yrs before she can start doing any selling. She said no matter how tame people think farm raised deer are hers are still plenty wild. They have to be darted for the vet to even get in to take blood samples. Oh and that vet of hers that also works here has an elk herd at his house. He is the second elk farmer that I know of in these parts. Could be more.

it's a breeder buck hiped up on steroids...that was released from the breeding pen into the highfence rance...personally i would rather kill a straight up big fair chase deer..No a deformed monster...plus the roids dont get inheited by the offspring so they have to catch the offspring and shoot em up too..
as an avid hunter i can understand the big buck syndrome..... who doesnt wanna get the huge rack to brag about and show your buds, but me personally i have no interest in farm deer or fenced deer, now if you go to a ranch of say 10,000 acres free range no fences that's a little different, but i'm still amazed at the fact the there are hunters who will shell out the $$$ to go to a farm with the intent of getting a genetically altered deer... to each is own i guess.
yeah, not my cup of tea. However, if I had a game room or something like that, it would be nice to have a massive something hanging on the wall.
