new bow

mussmuss Member Posts: 1,311 ✭✭✭✭✭
Shot my new to me bow last night. Mathews LX. Got it used for $400 complete with sight, rest, quiver. It was a 04 model used 1 season. Sold my older Hoyt Intruder for $200 with the works on it and also all the arrows. Trying carbons this year. Gold Tip Hunters. Impressed with it so far. 3 months to go.

I don't even want to start the "which bow is better" fight...I am shooting a whole lot of different bows and trying to figure out which one is best for me. I broke my right elbow in march and tore the tendons real bad...since then I have been trying to get the arm strength back but it just isn't there...thinking a bow with greater let off will help. Plus these newer bows maintain speed even with lighter draw weights...the days of "macho" draw weight are over for me.

Got it today, arrived at like 2:30 pm, got everything on it, nocked it, and put a peep sight in ( which for a brand new string is mighty tough) shot it three times at 5 yards, then 3 times at ten yards...I was 2 inches low and an inch to the right at 5, and dead on at 10! [8D] WHOO HOO!

Well all you guys got me thinkin'. I need a new one haha but i am 18, headin to school in the fall, and work at mc-e-dees-. I cannot spend 400+ on a bow like matthews or hoyt. I WOULD LOVE TO, just can't afford it lol. I looked at pse but it seems any bow company that is in my range 200-250 doesn't make any decent bows. Any input?
    Thanks,
    Anthony (A.GUN)

No, Muss you're not alone, but you really have to quit teasing us. How did it go? I'm looking at one of the Horse Bows myself. Not one from www.horsebows.com but another make that's much cheaper up here. $350Cdn instead of nearly a grand.

Didn't see the double post.Clicked twice didn't you.

Just not a very active sight right now..Seems to pick up on weekends and during the Fall and Winter Hunting Season, and Spring Turkey Season.I read all the posts with interest here on the Archery Forum.

Most people are in the General Dicussion Forum ( real active year round ).Talking about everything imaginable. Can't believe the amount of Gun Owners there that never talk of hunting, yet they have many Guns.I believe many of them believe they are going to need them in the future for self protection. I also believe some hope they can put them to use for self-protection.

Are you going to Hunt with that new Bow? What Bow did you buy?

Its been a few days since I checked here. I guess I am used to it being dead. I just got the PSE firestorm lite, 70lb draw. In between changing diapers and chasing the 4 and 5 yr old, I get to fling a few arrows. The bow is dea on out to 35 yards. I think I will like carrying it into the woods this fall.

I don't know if I can legally shoot ghosts thoough........

After collecting my thoughts from Ben scaring me [:0] I was able to read everything and see what kind of bow you got.

I've heard a lot of good comments about the PSE's, sounds like your in that group to. Do you bow hunt already or is this gonna be your first year?

PS: I always heard you can use them carbon arrows for taking out stinky diapers when needed...[;)]

I love my PSE, I can drop it out of my tree stand 25ft high, and it will still shoot like a champ. Muss, if you get the chance to bag a ghost, do it. Enquirer pays more than Bass Pro.

suspension, I hunted with a bow years ago, 15 or so. I just moved back to Pa. and decided to try it again. Growing up I hunted with the bear whitetail hunter, man have bows come a long way.

I think I have shot my muzzle loader at a few ghosts before, because the certain shot I was taking, just completely missed the deer. Nothing is finer than a deer standing at 20 yards staring at you, sticking its tongue out and laughing at you. [:D][:D] with the old front stuffer unloaded.

LOL [:D] Oh muzzleloaders! I had a decent little buck walk up a creek bank to me on the very last day of muzzleloader season three years ago. It was freezing cold outside, blowing snow half rain, and I was tired of being out there. So I decided to drop a 50 cal sabot in his head. When I shot my gun popped like a dud cap and I could actually see the sabot loob in front of me like 8 feet, about 10 feet shy of the deer. Yeah he walked that close and I was leaning against a tree with my gun shoulder the entire time.
Moral of the story, I have a Thompson Center now..[;)]
