New bow

A.GunA.Gun Member Posts: 1,326 ✭✭✭✭✭
Shot my new to me bow last night. Mathews LX. Got it used for $400 complete with sight, rest, quiver. It was a 04 model used 1 season. Sold my older Hoyt Intruder for $200 with the works on it and also all the arrows. Trying carbons this year. Gold Tip Hunters. Impressed with it so far. 3 months to go.

I don't even want to start the "which bow is better" fight...I am shooting a whole lot of different bows and trying to figure out which one is best for me. I broke my right elbow in march and tore the tendons real bad...since then I have been trying to get the arm strength back but it just isn't there...thinking a bow with greater let off will help. Plus these newer bows maintain speed even with lighter draw weights...the days of "macho" draw weight are over for me.

Heard Horton is now making a compound bow. It it is as good as the crossbow it could be a dandy.

Got it today, arrived at like 2:30 pm, got everything on it, nocked it, and put a peep sight in ( which for a brand new string is mighty tough) shot it three times at 5 yards, then 3 times at ten yards...I was 2 inches low and an inch to the right at 5, and dead on at 10! [8D] WHOO HOO!

Well all you guys got me thinkin'. I need a new one haha but i am 18, headin to school in the fall, and work at mc-e-dees-. I cannot spend 400+ on a bow like matthews or hoyt. I WOULD LOVE TO, just can't afford it lol. I looked at pse but it seems any bow company that is in my range 200-250 doesn't make any decent bows. Any input?
    Thanks,
    Anthony (A.GUN)

Check out the Mathews Mission bows. Sure they are not like the top end ones, but I think they start around 350 and go up to 550. Sorry if that is still a little high for your budget. Just trying to throw out an idea for an affordable new bow. Think of them as the Reflex line of Mathews.

Now for my obligated Mathews bash...They are no Hoyt.[:D]

Another option is to shop the classifieds at http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=8 . I have bought and sold a fair amount of stuff off here with no problems. Fairly good bunch.

    Good luck

I got my Mathews LX for sale. Was wanting 400 for it. I would think that you could find a 2-3 year old hoyt or PSE in your range. This should be a good time of the year to pick one up. Good luck.

I know that up to last year, a buddy had a PSE and it shot as well as the rest of the bows in our camp. One main thing to remember is that the best bow on the market is the one that you can HIT with. Price doesn't really matter! I wouldn't hesitate to look at PSE if they are in your price range. Good luck![;)]

A.Gun, you're not going to find a bow in that range unless it's used. The new Mission is a nice bow for the money, we have 3 at the shop and they all shoot very well with little or no hand shock at all. "It's basically Mathews 2 year old limbs( straight from Mathews) on this new bow." Only difference is cheaper one has a black riser and the other are machined a little more.

Bowtec also makes some nice bows for a decent price. They're nice bows too. Last summer I was talking to a guy at the archery range that was hitting 4" groups at 60yds with his bowtec. Though I wouldn't recomend any shot that far while hunting.
