I was asking that same question on here about a month ago. With all the encouragement, i went and got a bow and have had a whole month to practice, plus two more weeks before season comes in.

So i want to be likewise encouraging to you, but in reality, at this late point, you may not have enough time to get used to your bow that quick. Of course, you didn't say exactly when you planned to hunt with it. You probably don't plan to just get it one day and go out the next day and hunt. I'd give it at least a month and even that is pushing it.

But, as stated, i'm new to this too, so maybe of the more experienced gents can offer better advice. Good luck to you.

Oh, as far as equipment, always get the best you can afford so you don't have to buy twice.

OK...I'm going to vent...Matthews...they're like @ssholes...everybody has one. They were one of my top 3 choices when I was shopping for a new bow a few years back. However, they won't give you a break on their pricing. I've never heard or been told any different. A guy comes into an archery shop and is prepared to drop a grand on a new bow and all the goodies and you don't get any price break on the main course??!! To me, that's not the kind of product/manufacturer that I'm going to spend my $$$ on. Parker I don't know much about though I've read some good things about them. Check out Bowhunting.net, they had a link to some good bow tests and info for new shoppers.
I chose High Country as I've said several times before on this forum. IMO, their equipment is far superior to the masses of Matthews. They're faster, quieter, lifetime warranty, solid customer service and engineers/techs...and you can find a good deal on them. I can hook you up with my dealer. Check them out online.
The bottom line is there are many top quality manufacturers out there and if you're not worried about the cost...you're decision will be challenging but, very fun.
    I feel better now...[:I]

I know a half dozen people who use Mathews bows-they all love their bows. Personally I do not have any experience with Mathews. I DO shoot a Parker,Feather mag model. I love my bow. My bow is 4 years old, and in archery, that is a lifetime-I dont know how the new Parkers are, but I do like the company, I have called them several times, they are very helpful. I dont think you would go wrong with a Matthews, but the question is, are they worth that much more than the competitors. I do a lot of bow shooting and hunting, and personally, I dont feel the need to spend that much money on my equipment. My $200(on clearance) parker is all the bow I need, and I dont feel like I am missing out on anything a $600-1000 bow would provide-then again, it might be a case of not knowing what I am missing.
