Tree crotch stands

plains scoutplains scout Member Posts: 4,563
Just finished a short article by a guy that builds his own that fold down and lock into the crotch of the tree. Anyone out there have plans or know where a store bought one can be had??

Looks like a fairly quick and easy set up in a big tree with appropriate branching.

You can take a 2 or 3 foot board about 10" wide and cut a "V" notch in each end. Then you can wedge that down in the v crotch of a tree. You'd want to find the tree first, and make sure you had a way up it, maybe some screw in steps. Seems it would be safer to sit than stand on it, and not too far up, either.

The one that I am looking at uses angle iron for a brace on each side and it "hinges" in the middle so when you step down on it it "locks" down and in place with the angle iron "sticking" into the tree on each side.

The article said Bear River sells one "like it" but I can not find any commercial stands that look like it.

I have made several. Very simple with angle iron and some expanded metal. I can fax a drawing to tou if you would like. You will however need acess to a welder.
