How do you make your bow quiet?

Islander1989Islander1989 Member Posts: 183 ✭✭✭
So what accessories do you use to quiet your bow? I have string silencers, but that's about it. What have ya'll found to be helpful?

I have a PSE that is about 12 years old. I think it is the Polaris Express if that means anything to you. I know, time to update, but I didn't shoot for about 5 years, and just started again 2 years ago when I got married. Let's just say the funds aren't quite available for a new setup...yet[:D]

I'm actually shooting aluminum 2312's with 100gr tips. I use 5" feather fletch with a right helical. I think the spine is a little weak for the bow, but it still will group to ~5" at 40 yards when I'm shooting well, so I'm not complaining too much. I was just shooting with another guy the other day (he had a new High Country) and his bow hardly made a whisper compared to the sound of mine. [B)]

Don't beat yourself up your comparing apples with oranges. As long as you bow shoots well keep using it. Save up some money here and there then get a [:p]Mathews outback [:p]and his bow will sound noisy. Try 2512's easton thin wall. Hope ya get a nice Buck.[;)]

Like buckey said try limb savers also try string leaches, and a doinker stabilizer with a limb saver on the end of it all of the SVL products work pretty well.

Well, I put on the limb savers. I don't know that I noticed much difference shooting it at the range, but maybe I'll be able to tell in the woods. I'm heading out tonight to hunt tomorrow and Thursday, so hopefully I'll have a tale to tell on Friday.

Buckyboy, I have to disagree with you on quiteness of a High Country bow. My Carbon 4 Runner is quiter than any of the Mathews bowmen I shoot and hunt with. I have the built in limbsavers that came from the factory and a carbon stablizer, that is it. Mathews buildes a fine bow, but I like the way mine shoots better than a Mathews, and it weighs about half what a Mathews weighs rigged out.

Im sure the carbon 4-runner is a fine bow. I was just being trying to be encouraging to the person asking the question. No offense[:I] how much does the 4 runner weigh? my mathews is only 3and 1/2 pounds rigged maybe 5 lbs. Boy you better not let gogolen hear about this.[}:)] "Just my personal thoughts". Everone is so concerned with quietness of their bow. B-4 I bought my mathews I shot a Darton Impulse it was a very noisy bow, and I shot quite a few deer with it. so I'm not so sure if quiet is as necessay as we seem to think? what do you think? I think we feel better with a quiet bow for our own confidence. as far as getting more deer I'm not convinced [?]

    Hey Hornet,
Care to take the pepsi challenge on the quietness factor? Just for the record if you shoot a lot the major disadvantage of a light bow is the vibration, I don't care if you have every piece of vibration dampening hardware on your bow or not, the one major piece of vibration dampening is weight without it all of the vibration goes straight to your elbow, going from the ultra light to the outback was a great move as far as that goes. Sorry I am a little cranky this morning.

Hornet, I forgot about you being a fellow HCA shooter...I'll take the Pepsi challenge with you.
HCA's carbon riser bows are super light and super quiet. The carbon fiber absorbs up to 75% more shock than aluminum and dampens the sound transfer much better. The solid S-D Tech bushing from the factory claims 40% noise reduction and 80% vibration reduction. It's not affected by extreme temperatures either. You can dry fire the carbon bows all day long, if you want to, and it won't hurt a thing. If it did, HCA will gladly replace it.
I asked my wife the other evening while I was shooting..."What's louder, my bow or the arrow hitting my Carbon Block target?" "The arrow", she said.
Hey Gogolen, I sent you an email several days ago. Did you get it or just not reply?

Looks like I raised a few eye brows. My High Country Carbon 4 Runner weighs in at 2.5 pounds from the factory, rigged out just a tad under 4 pounds. And I will be glad to shoot with you anytime. Just one problem I live on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. I am guessing but do you live in the Illinois or Ohio maybe. Great hunting up there, I have made about 3 trips to Illinois to hunt, brought back at least one deer each time, got 2 deer on a archery /gun hunt.

Hey guys this was the Buckeyboy show[B)]Did you guys read my thred on quietness. [?] I'm sure both bows are good bows. I haven't had an opertunity to try the carbon 4 runner, because I have been very satisfied with the Mathews. Some guys like Harley Davidsons other Guys like Honda Gold wings. Harley is one of the top selling motorcycles. But the truth is they can't hold a candle to the engineering AND QUALITY of Honda, BMW, Yamaha, Ducatti, My point is this if you are more comfortable with 4 runner it's the bow for you. Note there is a reason why Mathews is used by most professional hunters,[:D][:D][:D] There the only ones that can afford one.[:D] Just Kidding. I have a new saying.[;)]"FORGET THE BOW JUST HUNT"[;)]I hope sent blocker dosent sue me for that[B)]

Well said buckey, whatever bow floats yer boat enjoy it. NOW you startin to stir about harleys?[;)] I'll ride, shoot or whatever a person wants to do and couldn't give 2 s**ts what they have as long as they're happy with it. Not knockin the 12 year old PSE but it's kinda hard gettin older bows quiet. My brother had a PSE mach 4 and it was nosey as can be but he kills deer every year. Now he's bought a Matthews legacy and loves it, but he also really liked the pse he just decided to upgrade.
