70 # and 6 Pt. Rack

Forgot to mention earlier bout Crosshair telling of a little deer that came in behind him while he was leaning against a tree, while trying to push deer for us during our slug gun hunt last week.

He says the little buck probably only weighed 70 pounds field dressed but had a little 6 point rack. All tines were 2 to 3 inches long.Had a short nose like yearlings do with a short head.Hope this deer comes by my stand in another year or so. I think he's going to be a real wall hanger.

Another interesting thing was Crosshair Jr's 7 pt. Buck was that this deer had a the short head like a real young deer with guestimated weight of 110 pounds. Also had those long hairs on many places on his body like young deer have.We removed his lower jaw bone with teeth and found it to be 7 months old but not much older on comparrison of his teeth.According to my book (ODNR)on aging the deer with his teeth.

The 9 pointer I got two years ago was aged at 1-1/2 by the game warden that checked it in. I never scored it but I believe it was around 18/19 inches inside. Pretty big deer for it's age. Maybe we got weird water here in Ohio.. [:D]

Yes that buck was sporting a heck of a rack for the size of the young guy. I also seen three doe saturday of the gun season and they come out of a brush pile one at a time. The first and second came first and heard a third expecting big momma which I had planned on shooting with my 44 if she was big. Turned out that the third was also kinda small. The thing was all was about the same size but did not seem to be yearlings in size but not real big either. Trying to figure out if these deer are over sized for their age or under sized. Suspension, You hunt Ohio, Have you noticed if the young ones are a little large in size this year for some reason. It seams to me that maybe they have been born real early this past year for some reason. Maybe the weather I am tinking. But we did have a pretty harsh winter last year though! It seems to me that the buck my son killed should of only had bumps on his head instead of a seven point rack on him.

Believe nothing that you hear and only one half of what you see!!

I would agree crosshair, deer seem to be larger compared to their age. I saw a couple does this year that had triplets with them and they looked like the largest does I ever seen. Both their belly's were like 6 or 8 inches off the ground and long, man those were some backstraps on those girls. [:D]
