Hoyt best bows out there. Reflex, best bows for the money.

You want a compound or a recurve? Is five hundred the total money for the whole setup? You will most likely need a bunch of new accessories for a new bow. I say buy him a gift certificate and let him go into the proshop and get set up. Lots of stuff to think about buying a bow for someone, such as draw length. I have seen on most forums when beginners or people ask for suggestions they tell you to go to a pro shop and talk to your local pro.

Definately a gift certificate. To many possibilities unless you buy a bare bow and let him put all the money in for arrows, site, stabilizer, etc...
Find out where he deals for archery and get it for there.

Id stay away from chain stores id find a local mom and pop dealer and buy from them. you will pay more from them but the service you get back is better

Thats really nice you guy's chipping in. I know it takes away from the surprise but I have to agree with Susp. Gift certificate[;)] let dad pick the bow he wants to shoot. after all it is for him.[:)]

Make it a gift cert. That way he gets to pick it out. Same with the release, and sight.

Gets a little personal on the equipment on this sport.
