Paragraph from an article

bang250bang250 Member Posts: 8,021
I just wanted to share this little paragraph from a magazine article I was reading.

"Taking more than your limit might deny a youngster the chance to tag his first deer, or the disabled ex-GI recently returned from Iraq, the opportunity to even see a deer. An aged farmer who will die this coming winter might be deprived of tagging the last animal he'll ever shoot on his property, while his wife won't have the memory of the happiness that floods his face as she serves him his last venison dinner from that deer."

Why do they make it taste so good and put it in them little bitty cans- Dad

I have 5 deer for the year so far I don't feel bad. In the article they were talking about people shooting deer and someone else tagging it, ie.. I have my two bucks for the year but I go ahead and shoot another and have my wife tag it. THAT IS JUST AN EXAMPLE. I would never do that.. have her tag it. I play by the rules hunting is to important to me to risk loosing it.

I couldn't agree more bang, I like my huntin to much to take a chane of loosing my priveledges. I've taken my share of deer over my life and not once have I killed one and let another tag it. Now I have given a few away in the past to the childrens home in my hometown.

So none of you have ever had someone else tag a deer for you or tagged a deer you didn't shoot?

I never have, i've been pretty lucky and have killed deer every year. I did have a guy 3 years ago kill 2 and had me butcher them for him and he gave me one for my troubles. I also have had guys ask me to kill deer for them and they would buy their own tags to tag them. My response is, get yer lazy * in the woods and shoot your own deer.

I fully agree with the paragraph. I have ALWAYS killed and tagged my own deer. I would never ask for a tag or even hunt when I had met my limit. I have never bagged my limit of deer, but I see it all the time with duck in this area. People either shoot what is out of season or take more then their bag. Not to mention the ones that shoot at every bird that see without calling them in first. I was intimidated by bow hunting at first but then I figured I can nail a teal in flight so deer are not so scarey( dang things have rockets on their butts ) I have a big issue with people who take more then their limit. It just aint right.

Well ya'll I guess I am the bad one here then[B)]. I hunt one farm and before the owners wife passed away he always wanted two does every year, a young one and a mature one. Quit a number of deer were taken that they tagged, but never killed. Actually I know a lot of farmers/land owners that want to tag deer that are harvested from their land. Some I have hunted with, others simply want to eat venison and don't want to bother hunting.
I guess I have always looked at it like this: If the meat is going to be used and properly taken care of then it's alright. Something else that makes this seem right to me is that I live in a county which nearly always finishes 1st or in the top 3 for number of deer harvested, in other words we gots lots of deer. Let someone eat them or let someone hit them with their car?
Okay, I'm ready to be belittled now....[:I]

Susp. I guess I can kinda see what your sayin'. Especially if they are some older farmers. What I don't agree with and wouldn't do is have my wife by tags, then I shoot the deer and put her tags on it basically just so I could shoot more deer and/or more opportunity at a better buck. But thats just me.
And speakin' of shootin deer I am going tomorrow down south with ENOS to pick up his processed deer and we figured since we are going down we may as well go down Fri. get up Sat. and hunt then get the meat and come home. So I may be fillin my doe tag with any luck.
