Arrow vanes

RoarkyRoarky Member Posts: 24 ✭✭
For the pass 12 years I have shot aluminum arrows. I have a PSE with an over draw and want to change to whisker biscuit and carbon arrows so that means my whole setup is changing. I see all of the pros on TV shooting 2" vanes but talk to a local bow shop owner and he strongly disagreed with 2" and to stay at least with 3". Any thoughts?

I shoot carbons w/ 3.5" fletching through a whisker biscuit, no problems.

I was also told to stay away from short vanes.
Half of the lives they tell about me aren't true.

Some short vanes are probably not what you want. However, most of those guys on the TV shows are probably shooting Blazer 2" vanes which are different and act different then normal 2" vanes. There are several people on here that can verify that they work just as well if not better then longer vanes. I would be shooting them too if it were not to stay in hunter classes while 3D shooting.

I shoot both long and short fletch. My target arrows I shoot a 2.3" 3D duravane. This is a very low profile, short vane. For target work you don't need much fletch. My hunting arrows I shoot a 4" feather. Starting this year I will be using fletch from a wild turkey I shot last spring. That should be really interesting... I can't wait until they get here. I will post up some pics when they are done.

Just keep in mind what fletch does for an arrow... It adds the rotation and corrects the flight of the arrow. If you get poor flight try more fletch. I know some shooters that went to blazers, but 4 or 6 fletch their arrows.
