I'm building Summit style tree ropes cheap!

Let me know if you want one. Not really selling them just covering my costs. $0.50/foot. I can do either the climber style (10') or any length for hang on stands. Just remember you need 10' more than your platform height. Shoot me an e-mail if you are interested.

It is a rope that goes around the tree and has a prussic knot that slides on the rope to adjust, but as force is applied grips to prevent a fall. The climber style is 10' long and moves up the tree as you climb. The hang on style is installed at the same time as the stand and is attached to the tree 6 or so feet above the platform. The same prussic knot slides up and down the length of the rope all the way to the ground. Some tension is needed at ground level to move the knot freely. I do this by tying my bow to it and then pulling up my bow after getting in the stand.

I will work on that. I have to find someone willing to be in the pictures... without falling out of the tree. [:D] I have a few to build so far to family and friends. Many would like to try them.

Basically its a tree stand but you hang by a rope? like a lasso?

The rope goes around the tree and then you hook your safety harness to the prussic knot.

so lets say I bought a cheap gorilla vest from wally world, could I loop it to the tree rope instead of buying an actual harness?

Yes... as long as your vest had a strap you could connect to the prussic knot. I prefer to use an auto-locking carabiner I got at a rock climbing store. The one I use is about $15 and is rated at 6000 lbs. No typo there either, thats 28kN. http://en.petzl.com/petzl/ProProduits?Produit=336 is a link to the one I use (ball lock).

The only other thing to consider is if the vest you use is safe. From a company like Gorilla I would think it should be.
