how far is too far

if you have an open shot, 5 or less mph wind...how far will you shoot? I used to live by a 25 yard rule...lately I have been shooting from 35+ yards, putting it behind the shoulder on my target. Just dunno how the penetration will be...

Perfect conditions I may shoot up to 50 yards. Not that it is right for everyone, but I can.

If conditions are ideal 50 yards longbow 60 yards crossbow. But at those distances it would probably have to be a shot into a field and one heck of a rack.

You do realize that most crossbows has a worse trajectory and less killing power at that distance then a modern compound?

But I am also much more accurate with the x-bow and can consistently get good groups at that range.

I keep it 30 yards or closer.

For me, 30 yards is about tops. Heck even with a shotgun or pistol, I try to keep it under 100.

Only you can answer that question. You know your maximum range according to your comfort/confidence level...regardless of what anyone else thinks.

The longest shooting lane that I have at any of my stands is 38 yards. I can see farther than that out of all of my stands, but I only take shots at deer that are in my cleared lanes so I know I won't hit an unseen twig. I can shoot accurately to 50 yards, but I don't think I would take a shot like that at deer in my woods. Maybe if I went out west to hunt bigger game, I might change my philosophy.
