Nock/feather placement?

When you put the arrow on the string should the odd colored feather be pointing up at 90 degrees?
I am knocking the feathers off of my arrows.
Am I doing something wrong?

    With a Whisker Biscuit yes odd color goes up.a drop away it doesn't matter.

    which feathers are you knocking off? You shooting vanes or feathers?

    Guys, please pardon my ignorance.
    I am shooting vanes, not arrows.
    On both arrows it was one of the even colored vanes, not the odd one.
    The holder is not a drop away, it is round and has three "brushes" (again, pardon my ignorance, but I don't know what else to call them).
    Thanks for the help, I just got the bow today.

    You must be shooting with a whisker biscuit rest. I don't believe it should matter what the orientation of your arrow is with a whisker biscuit. What could be happening though, since you are shooting vanes is that your vanes are hitting the cables. If this is the case, you should see some rub up rubber on the vanes. If this is the case, then try shooting with the knock vane out, not the common way for a release shooter, but with a whisker should be just fine. You make have to adjust your knock around to get to this orientation. If you don't have cable contact, then your vanes maybe glued on incorrectly.

    I was tired.
    It is not a whisker biscut because the brushes have spaces between them and the whisker biscut seem to be one round brush.
    I put the arrow on the string and turned them a bit so that the vane would slide through the spaces between the brushes.
    Three brushes, three spaces between brushes and three vanes.
    I'll see how that works.

    Also, with a whisker biscuit, you do not want the vanes passing through the more course "whiskers" used to support the arrow. Over time, your vanes will wrinkle or rip off.

    Sounds to me like a Hostage rest. Similar to a WB, but has breaks for fletch clearance.

    2 things....
    First is there any noticible fletch damage on your arrows? What I am getting at is there any marks on one particular fletch more than others? Is there marks on the right or left side of any or all of them?

    Second if not the above then have your arrows fletched with something different. I prefer feathers on my hunting and indoor arrows. Give them a try. They do need to be replaced, but will shoot fine long after they look bad.

    I think I figured it out, in that I had to turn my arrow a bit to the left so that the vanes passed through the spaces between the "brushes".
    I believe that I had them set so that the vanes were hitting the brushes when I shot them, the twist to the left seems to have taken care of the problem.
    Also, it does appear to say "Hostage" on the rest.
