Blackpowder 30Carbine loads?

gunnut505gunnut505 Member Posts: 10,290
Trying to get more use out of my Blackhawk doing some cowboy shooting.
Anybody ever load blackpowder cartridge for 30M1 Carbine, or have a suggested starting load?
Just plinking & single action stuff, nothing fancy.

JUST STUFF THE CASE FULL AND USE LEAD BULLETS

yes just like all black powder loading you don't want air gap . I use a fiber wad when loading 44-40 about 22 grains and a 1\4 inch wad then 200 gr lead bullet

Before you do any loading, take an empty 30 Carbine case and fill it with flower. Then weigh the flower with your powder scale. This will give you the approximate weight of powder.

That's not a bad way to start.

Then you can determine if you want to use FFg or FFFg BP.

EDIT: A 30 carbine round isn't elegiable for SASS competition per the rule book, Pg 9.
