cowboy action "92"

longspur riderlongspur rider Member Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just recently started cowboy action shooting & was looking to get a lever action reproduction. I own a couple of old win. "92"s, & like the feel of them, but don't want to use them for this. I've looked at Pumas, Ubertis, & Tayloy & co. Any advice? Also have concidered the Taylor in a takedown.

Welcome aboard the cowboy trail. I have a Stainless Navy Arms that works quite well, however most all of remakes are from Uberti anyway, so it is who has the best price.

I read in one other message that "92"s were subject to jamming. Is that inherent to all "92"s or just the lower end remakes?

Heck, my real Winchester 1892 ties up every now and then. Probably from bulk bullets that aren't quite to spec.

The '92 is stronger, but the fast shooters use repro '73s. Ubertis (through whichever importer) are pretty expensive, though.
Marlin new make 94s are less expensive and do right well.

The 94's are the ones that'll really give you grief. An action designed for a large caliber, toned down to take a pistol caliber? I know...I've had 2 of em over the years, should have learned the first time! [B)]

I mostly use my 73, but also have a Henry (style points!). These bad boys are getting real pricey, unless you can find a good used one.

For an absolutely 100% reliable 92, check with this guy. He's a SASS member, and the "wizard of 92's"!
