1860 uberti bore and groove dia 44-40

i am want to know the diameter inside the barrel of a 1860 uberti in 44-40. because i know most of the barrel dia are .429 and some are .427. the reason i ask is because i don't want to put a .429 down a 427. i have a ruger vaquero in 44-40 and i want to shoot same ammo in each. the barrel on it is a .429 and i can chamber one in the 1860 and it fits. i just don't wan to shoot it yet.

    Do you mean an 1873 (peacemaker Colt type pistol) I wasn't aware that 1860 conversions came in 44-40, just 44 Colt.

    I thing I saw this question on the other two forums and I think he meant "1866 Uberti" or at least that is how I read it.

    Well, if he means an 1866 Uberti, I have been shooting one in CAS competition for 7 years. I use a lead bullet sized to .428, I've also used .427's, but .429's or larger won't chamber. The bore may well be a .429 -430, but the chamber is cut to 44- 40 specs, so 428 is the max. Mine is very accurate out to 100 yards.

    Alright, then my above comment would apply. They have 44-40 chamber dimensions that keep you from going larger than .427 - .428.

    You would have to use the JSP made by Winchester and Remington that is for the 44-40. It's a 200 grain, JSP, and available at Midway. Click reloading, brass and bullets, bullets, rifle bullets. That will get you there.
    I noticed on your other posting at Ask the Experts, you say a .429 Bullet will chamber in your rifle. If that's the case then you can probably use them. My chamber is too tight. Make a dummy round with a .430 jacketed bullet and see if it chambers.
    The only way to truly know bore diameter is to slug the barrel. If you can't do it, try a gunsmith. I've seen variations in Italian barrels as much as .005 +/-.
