My pistol manual says to use FFFg but is Pyrodex P a safe substitute? manual is 12 years old and I was wondering if Pyrodex P is a new item ( since 1996?)

Pyrodex P has been around longer than that.
It works fine, it is a little more corrosive than black powder.

My guns like Pyrodex P. I've shot a lot of powders and I keep coming back to Pryodex P . clean up is not bad with soap and water. The best is true black powder. Reduce your load of powder by 10 % with Pryodex .It is more powerful than black .

As long as you load by volume you should be fine. Pyrodex P for revolvers/pistols and Pyrodex RS for shotguns and rifles.

Pyrodex is not "more powerful" than black powder. It is denser and you actually use less of it to match a load of black powder. That is why you use a measure and load by volume.

30 grains of black powder....30 grains of Pyrodex.

    Simple as that.
